Space physics research at the University of Minnesota includes a wide variety
of theoretical and experimental projects. University of Minnesota faculty, researchers and students are active participants in the ISTP (International
Solar-Terrestrial Physics) Science Initiative. The ISTP is a collaborative
effort by NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA), and the Institute of Space
and Astronautical Science (ISAS) of Japan to investigate the Earth-Sun space
environment over an extended period of time. University of Minnesota
Professor Cynthia Cattell is the Project Leader of the International Auroral
Study(IAS), a collaborative effort to study the northern and southern
aurora using simultaneous observations by various spacecraft and ground
stations.
